The Census Bureau's County Business Patterns for 2023 count 920 roofing contractor locations with paid employees in Colorado. Jefferson County has the most, 121, followed by El Paso 108, Denver 103, Arapahoe 102, Adams 92, Larimer 80, Weld 65 and Douglas 59. Those eight counties hold 730 of the 920 locations, 79 percent.
- Jefferson: 121
- El Paso: 108
- Denver: 103
- Arapahoe: 102
- Adams: 92
- Larimer: 80
- Weld: 65
- Douglas: 59
The five Denver-area counties, Jefferson, Denver, Arapahoe, Adams and Douglas, hold 477 locations, 52 percent of the state. In Douglas County, 54 of the 59 locations have fewer than five employees.
The Census counts locations with employees by the county where the location sits, not where the crew works, and a roofer based in one county works in several. Small counties are partly suppressed, which is why the county list sums to 904 against the state's 920. The shape holds: the metro is crowded, and most of the shops in it are small.
A homeowner with hail on the roof can call a long list before reaching you. The ones that get answered on the first ring are the ones that get the inspection.
What ProxMedia does about it: an AI receptionist for roofing companies that answers the storm-week calls in order, and roofing websites that make the inspection request obvious.
