BrightLocal's Local Consumer Review Survey 2026, a representative panel of 1,002 US adult consumers, asked about writing reviews. 69 percent had written a business review in the last 12 months. 78 percent had been asked to write one. 65 percent wrote one after being asked. Only 6 percent said they would not write a review at all, which BrightLocal reads as 94 percent being open to it if they are caught at the right moment.
- Wrote a business review in the last 12 months: 69 percent
- Were asked to write one: 78 percent
- Wrote one after being asked: 65 percent
- Say they would never write one: 6 percent
- Positive experiences shared: 60 percent; negative: 29 percent
The figures are self-reported and cover every kind of local business. BrightLocal's wording leaves it open whether the 65 percent is of all consumers or of those asked, so this note quotes the numbers side by side and computes nothing from them.
The reading is plain enough. The ask is expected, most people say yes to it, and positive experiences get shared twice as often as negative ones. A business that finishes the job and does not ask is leaving the rating to the customers who had a bad day.
Pull one number: last month, how many completed jobs ended with a request for a review, and who on the team made the ask?
What ProxMedia does about it: a review request after every job, with a direct link, and reply drafts you read and post yourself.
